I. Evaluation Process:

II. Five Measurement Dimensions of the Derwent Impact Index:

Clarivate evaluates each invention using the Derwent Strength Index, which is based on the following five core dimensions:

l  Influence:Measure the frequency and breadth of citations by subsequent patents to evaluate patent quality, reflecting technical leadership. This metric assesses the technology's role in driving industry development.      

l  Investment Intensity: Evaluates the geographic coverage and financial scale of patent applications and maintenance. This metric reflects a company's commitment to technology and its market strategy.      

l  Success Rate: Evaluates patent grant rate, patent family size, and legal status stability. This metric measures the success of commercialization and legal protection for innovation outcomes.      

l  Uniqueness/Scarcity: Assesses the novelty of the technology and its differentiation from existing solutions. This metric evaluates technological breakthroughs and irreplaceability.      

l  Global Coverage: Evaluate patents across multiple countries/Geographic footprint. This metric reflects the technology's global value and business ambition.      

 

III. Quantitative Evaluation Methods for Patent Quality

l  Rating System

(1)  Relative Scoring: Each invention is scored against a global benchmark rather than in isolation, with relative performance determined by comparing it to patents in the same field worldwide.

(2)  Invention-level scoring: Evaluates individual inventions rather than entire patent families for precision.

(3)  Comprehensive Score Summary: Aggregates scores across all inventions to evaluate the organization's overall innovation strength.
